The Digital Television Age is Here

The time is coming when there is going to be no analog channels broadcast any longer and that is because all the television transmissions will be going digital. This is going to occur in February of 2009 and there are many households that will need to make a decision prior to February about what they will do for television programming.

There are choices that can be made, but which of these one is the best is becoming clear, satellite TV with a provider like Dish Network is one of the choices that many people are deciding is their best choice. This is because they want to have digital programming which is clear and that makes it really enjoyable to watch television programs and movies that are offered.

Having satellite TV also means a family can be located anywhere and still enjoy the great digital programming. This is because satellite TV unlike cable TV can be used in any location and this is not the case with cable TV, because cable TV needs underground wires that send the signal to the receiver hooked into the television. That means living outside the city there is little chance of being able to have cable TV.

There are some really great advantages with digital television, there is not more snow, not ghosting and the voice will always match the person speaking. This is because when programming and movies are sent in a digital signal they are also sent with the voice and that is not how analog signals are, they are separate voice and program. Digital programming will always be clear and crisp.

One thing is certain, analog is going to change and when it does tuning on a television that has an antenna will result in nothing but snow and then a black screen, because there will no longer be any channels transmitting in analog. This means for people that are using the rabbit ear method of watching television will need to make a change by February or they will be watching nothing.

The change that TV viewers will need to make is a choice between a converter box to still receive local channels, a satellite provider like Dish Network where there are packages to fit everyone and cable TV if the person lives in an area where it is possible to get cable TV. Though the pricing between Dish network and cable TV, which is usually higher than with satellite TV.

Satellite TV is one way to have more channels without creating a major monthly expense for the person or family that is used to having free television by using an antenna. It will also give them many more channels than the amount that is available in the local markets. The extra channels are filled with quality programming to fit every member of the household from the youngest to the oldest, including movies, educational programming, music and entertainment for all ages.

The person that cannot decide will wake up one morning in February, turn the television on and there will be no morning news to greet them.

For great information about Dish Network and the many choices for Dish Network deals to fit every families needs there is a terrific website.

Company Brochures

At some point, every small business creates a brochure. but it is often an exercise in futility. Whether you are creating the brochure yourself, or hiring someone to do it for you, be sure to ask the following questions before you get started!

Get to the Point!

How will the brochure be used?

Is it sent as a follow-up to phone inquiries, left behind after a sales call or delivered with a formal proposal?

Are you trying to get more repeat business from customers who already know you? Or is your goal to attract the attention of a new client? Define your objective up front, and then write your copy with that in mind.

Good creative begins with a plan ….

How will you grab your reader’s attention?

One of the most common mistakes companies make is leading with their name. If you haven’t caught the reader’s attention by speaking to their needs, problems or desires, they won’t care about your name.

Consider starting with a provocative question or declaration; an appeal to the emotions, needs and wants of your customer; or a benefit-laden statement.

Learn more about creating powerful headlines

For whom is the brochure created?

This is not a trick question. Your answer should roll off your lips instantly: the client! That seems simple, but many companies make a serious error by focusing on the company instead of the needs of potential customers.

Here’s a quick way to check your brochure for the correct focus: Circle every “you” with a red pen and circle every “we” or “I” or mention of your company’s name with a blue pen. There should be a lot more red than blue on your brochure. If not, it is time to revise, revise, revise

In Leadership, The Eight Ways Of Right Action (Part 2)

In Part 1, I said that leaders who can’t have people take right action are ineffective, and I listed four of the eight ways of right action. In Part 2, I’ll describe the remaining four ways.

Action must be:

(5) LINKED TO NEED. The people’s needs are their reality. If you are an order leader, you clearly do not have to know their needs. You simply exhibit a my-way-or-the-highway attitude. But if you want to motivate them to take action, you need to understand that reality. Because their motivation is not your choice, it’s their choice. Your role is to communicate, their role is to motivate, to motivate themselves. It’s their choice. It’s not yours. So their needs are not only their reality, in the leadership equation, their needs are the only reality. They don’t care about your needs. They don’t care about your reality. They only care about their reality. Tie the action you want them to take to THEIR NEEDS, not yours. Which means of course that you have to clearly identify their needs.

(6) URGENT: Patience is a virtue, but it can also be a tender trap. Urgency is a results-multiplier. A Roman centurion said the secret to instilling urgency in the troops was summed up in two words, “hit them.” His credo lives today in the order leader — not necessarily in a physical sense but more importantly in a psychological sense. But trying to gain urgency through “hit them” is far less effective than having urgency come from the people’s internal motivation. Here’s a process to have people take urgent action: IDENTIFY THEIR NEEDS, SEE THE PROBLEMS IN THEIR NEEDS, AND HAVE THEIR TAKING ACTION PROVIDE SOLUTIONS TO THOSE PROBLEMS.

For instance, in a police academy, an instructor came into the room with a note that said CLEAR OUT THIS ROOM IMMEDIATELY. The first cadet ordered his colleagues out. A few cadets left but most stayed. The instructor handed the note to a second cadet who pleaded for his classmates to leave. Again, a few left but most stayed. Finally, the instructor gave the note to a third cadet. This cadet understood how to identify needs and have people take action to solve those needs. He said two words, which emptied the room. “Lunch break!”

People are always willing to take ardent action to solve the problems of their needs. The question is can you identify those needs. Once you do, you hare half way home to getting them to take such action.

(7) DEADLINE: All action you have people take must have a deadline. Otherwise, it might become a low priority for them, and they will not be especially urged to take it. Be constantly monitoring yourself when motivating people to take action by asking, “Have I a put a deadline to this action?” If you haven’t, do it.

(8) FED BACK: True motivation isn’t what the people do in your sight. True motivation is what they do after they have left your sight. Many leaders get the “head fake” from the people they’re leading — their nodding their heads and saying, “Yes,” face-to-face with the leader; but inside saying, “No.” When they leave your presence, they do what they want, not what you want. Make sure that the action you challenge them to take is fed back to you, so that you are aware — and they are aware that you are aware — of that action.

Leaders do nothing more important than get results, and results come from people taking action.

The trouble is, most leaders have people get a fraction of the potential results because these leaders misunderstand what action really is — and in that misunderstanding misapply and misuse it.

When speaking to people, keep the eight ways of right action in mind so people take the right action to achieve the right results.

Web 2.0 Basics

Basically speaking, Web 2.0 refers to your website design. Though Web 2.0 gained popularity in 2004, the style has been around since the World Wide Web itself. Original websites were simple and easy to understand. As the Internet developed, people started to create website with multiple columns and images.

By 2004, the industry realized jam-packed websites were too confusing and complicated for people to use and understand. Web 2.0 web design brings the online world back to the simplicity of yesterday with cleaner lines and easy-going layouts.

A Web 2.0 site is recognized by its simplistic design. Instead of a page filled with information and columns, a Web 2.0 site has a central layout with fewer columns. Usually Web 2.0 sites only have two or three columns. The top section is separate so the website name, company information and bold logos are easily located and recognizable. Solid areas of screen real estate define areas with text, links, articles and video rather than merging them all together.

A Web 2.0 site is easily navigable. Links to other sections, articles, blogs and websites are simple to find. If users have to search around for what they need, they are likely to move on to a more navigable website design. Much like a store or office, people like to know where they are going when they enter your website.

Another characteristic of Web 2.0 sites is bigger text. Rather than squinting to read the fine print, all entries are legible so everyone can read the text. Introductions are printed in bold text so website visitors can effortlessly go from one entry to the next.

Graphics, photographs, surfaces, icons and flashes all add visual interest to a Web 2.0 site. Strong colors draw the eye to pertinent portions of the website. Flashes, icons, reflections and surfaces make users want to click to find out more information about what you have to offer.

The purpose of Web 2.0 design is to make your online real estate more accessible. Instead of distracting users with too much information, you are attracting them with alluring links that are simple to find. The icons, flashes and reflects draw the visitor’s eye right to the areas you want them to see. The result is improved communication between you and your website visitors. Better communication means improved results and increased profits.

Even if you feel unsure about the process, there are website templates and professional website design options to help you. If your website design isn’t talking to your visitors, it’s time to revamp it with Web 2.0.

The Prettiest Floral Wedding Gowns For Spring

Everything about spring is just so fresh and pretty. The flowers are in bloom, the weather is lovely, and romance is in the air. When you are planning a spring wedding, you will want to find a gown that captures the wonderful spirit of the season.

Spring is a time to indulge in all that is romantic and feminine. Cast off the more somber styles of winter, and lighten things up with a bridal gown that is breathtakingly beautiful. Some of the prettiest wedding dresses have unique floral details that make them as lovely as the spring itself.

Many of the top gown designers, such as Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta, are taking the floral motif to a whole new level this spring. Flowers can be found in more traditional forms, such as in lace, but they are also being used in more unique applications. In particular, some of the prettiest gowns have floral details that are slightly three-dimensional.

Now, don’t panic – when I say three-dimensional, I am not talking about a giant larger-than-life silk flower pinned to the tush of a wedding gown! The details are more subtle than that, and have a beautiful handcrafted feeling. One gorgeous fabric that designers are using this spring is a sheer silk organza with embroidered flowers all over it. Some of the flowers may even have tiny petals that lift away from the fabric. The effect is so unabashedly beautiful; just perfect for a spring bride.

Another gorgeous type of floral detail on bridal gowns for spring is handmade silk petals. The little petals are appliqued all over the gown, for the most wonderful effect. It adds a great unique texture at a distance; up close, the bride will look like the most beautiful flower ever. This style is so romantic you just can’t believe it. The fabric used is a sheer organza or chiffon, so the look is light as air.

Speaking of organza, another floral detail is to use it as a base for a floral lace applique. When the lace is added to the organza, the look is very light and fresh. It can be done so the floral motif is heavier at the hemline, and then becomes more and more scattered, like a garden growing on your dress. When done in white on white, it is a great subtle and romantic detail.

Such feminine gowns deserve equally pretty accessories. Often the veils are made with a touch of the matching floral effect to tie it in with the gown. In addition, accessories like handmade wedding jewelry will provide the perfect finishing touch. The customized look of wedding jewelry that has been handmade is just right with these unique floral bridal gowns.

There is no doubt that spring is one of the loveliest of all the seasons. Spring brides have such fantastic choices for their gowns this year. Wedding dresses with fresh floral details are some of the prettiest gowns of the entire year.

First Impressions Count

I like to travel in a jacket and dress slacks. People have often asked me why. The answer is that I think I get better treatment. Over many years, I’ve proven that theory to myself, although some of the examples may be arguable. This has not been a scientific study, after all.

I just got back from Kansas City. On the way there, I had to pick up a pre-booked rental car. The agent tried to up sell me, of course, and I had to tell her that the car was booked by a third party and I had no flexibility in price. However, I ended up getting an upgrade anyway – four levels above what was originally booked.

I’m convinced that if I’d been in jeans and somewhat unkempt in appearance, it would have been a different outcome. That’s human nature.

In his book “Blink,” Malcolm Gladwell zeros in on the two seconds in which we make initial judgments on virtually everything around us. In studies, he found that subconsciously, we make very quick decisions on a whole range of factors. And that there’s a “second brain” that makes slower conscious decisions.

I do a talk on being a better communicator. In the early stages of that talk, I have the audience do an exercise in which they break off into couples (must be strangers) and each one provides their first impressions of the other member of their 2 person team. I do this for two reasons:

1. They soon find that they make judgments based on appearance (particularly dress), facial
expressions, vocabulary, accents and body language.

2. They realize the importance of how THEY present THEMSELVES – that we judge each other based on just those elements.

It’s obvious how this relates to presentations. Knowing your audience is of paramount importance. Being sensitive to how you want them to perceive YOU should dictate your dress and your mannerisms.

We can shape other people’s impressions of us simply by how we present ourselves. How we dress is a very important part of that judging process. For example, a safety talk in front of a large group of energy field workers would dictate the absence of tie or jacket. You want to “mirror” the appearance of your audience and not appear to be an authority figure in any way shape or form. You’ll also want to use some of the language they use. An executive meeting would require a sparkling appearance . . . your classiest attire, unless you address them as they’re relaxing at a resort location during a retreat.

It should also help you decide on your opening. Not the entire opening, but certainly the first part, which is generally referred to as “building rapport.” The most successful means of opening is generally considered to be a story . . . with some humor (unless your talk doesn’t warrant it). This story should do a couple of things:

1. Help set the tone for your talk, by displaying your personality and demeanor.

2. Subtly tell something about you and how you may treat the subject you’re about to speak on — your perspective, perhaps. Are you speaking as a legal authority, a television producer, a cook? Each might pick a different story, but from a different point of view.

Finding just a story can be difficult. While this method of starting a talk is considered by many to be the most effective, there are many other ways. A simple humorous story, a joke along the same lines as your subject matter, an analogy, a simple observation. Whatever you choose, make sure it helps set up the appropriate mood.

After the rapport segment is finished, you’ll want have a very strong line or two that gets your audience’s attention and sets up the theme for your speech.

First impressions are being formed by each person you come in contact with. You know YOU do it, every time you see someone, much less talk to them. And everyone else is doing just the same thing.

We form an impression in only a few seconds. During the next 3 – 4 minutes or so, we can re-affirm that first impression or change it and form another one, based on interaction. However, after that 4 minutes are up and the impression has been formed, it will get much harder to change.

NetWeb Marketing Exodus – Membership Re-Opens Again

Ellie and Charlie Drake have opened the doors to NetWeb Marketing yet again. For a community that is supposed to be limited, and exclusive, there sure are a lot of re-openings since the project commenced in December.

Ellie Drake’s hallmark is what she calls “over delivery” and yet, the biggest gripe heard around the charter member forums is the failure to provide timely delivery of content and value.

When she partnered with Mike Filsaime in late 2007 to create NetWeb Marketing, the Network Marketing world was set on fire with the special “Death of Network Marketing” report and subsequent “Birth of” report that unveiled the new intenet concept they dubbed “NetWeb” Marketing.

It would appear that her membership isn’t convinced. As I mentioned in a previous article, Mike Filsaime and Ellie Drake grossed $175,000 on the launch day of this project. To that end, there was much anticipation of Drake’s signature “over-delivery” and this project just hasn’t seen the reality of it.

The first issue is whether or not the software that was provided was actually beta-test software. Drake and her husband Charlie started the Braveheartwomen website a few months before the NetWebmarketer site went live – using the same software model and platform. In addition, there was a promise to create websites for each new member, and then back pedaled saying it would be better for each member to learn to build their own site to get hands on training. Webinars were provided to offer training in that area, but it was the first sign of mutiny in the forums.

The second big issue is the focus of the project. In what was dubbed a wakeup call for all network marketers, it became clear rapidly, that Drake was focusing primarily on “newbies” to the inter-net-work marketing world. More experienced users were put “on hold” to help bring newbies up to speed, and as such, grumblings began in the members-only forum about a failure to deliver on promises made. While the program still holds value for newcomers to using the Internet to boost your network marketing business, experienced marketers were wondering what exactly they were getting for their $39 monthly fee.

The third strike was an email sent inviting Braveheart subscribers to take advantage of a membership in NetWebMarketing that was inadvertently sent out to all subscribers – leaving charter members at NetWebMarketing.com wondering why more people were being welcomed into their “closed door” community.

I’ve been on the inside of this forum since the inception, and while I maintain a “back door pass” into the community, memberships have been dropping for the past month at a steady rate. Several of the more advanced community members have opted to continue their marketing activities over at Mike Dillard’s free membership site, Magnetic Sponsoring.

Drake offered a live boot camp in Atlanta to charter members for $1 – which seemed to comply with her concept of over-delivery, but the “word on the street” from the members is that it was geared primarily to people just getting started.

One charter member commented that “you could effectively do everything that the software does for you at a lower cost then the 39 dollars per month. If you are new stay here and learn and have everything done for you… you can learn all of the stuff for free but it will take you a lot more time.” This same member is also enrolled at Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring Community.

So the general consensus is that NetWebMarketing is a great place for people who are just getting started, but with communities like Magnetic Sponsoring that are well-established and free, it may prove to be less valuable in the long term, as a user gains more experience.

As an income model, NetWeb is extremely clever. Subscribers pay a monthly fee for access to the community forum and drive traffic to the Netwebmarketer.com site by posting articles and blog content. The so-called advertising “network” that members can advertise on is nothing more than the pages of fellow members and those of the Braveheart community. Each site supports the traffic and page rank of the other automatically, through the efforts of it’s members. No additional work is required on the part of the Drakes – except maintaining and managing the content of the site.

For those that haven’t read all of the articles in this series, let me summarize: Bring a community product to market, promote it with a free report that pays minimally for referrals, then supply a second free report with incredible bonuses and pre-launch with a fee-based conference call. After the call, open the doors for a limited number and a limited time to increase the desire and perceived value of the product. Then deliver on the content to maintain your membership.

That last step appears to be the “lulu” in this program. Mike Filsaime is nowhere to be found in relation to this program anymore, yet his name still appears on the emails sent from Braveheart headquarters, and his name and likeness have been removed from the sign up pages that are now being sent.

Under promise and over-deliver are the watch words of effective network marketing. You owe it to your customers to provide not just content, but substantially valuable content on a continuing basis. That seems to be the early flaw in Drake’s new program, but time might just prove her out to be the over deliverer she’s been known to be.

In the meantime, unless you’re a newbie, NetWebMarketing doesn’t hold much in store. Experienced Network Marketers can get a lot more from other, low-cost or free options presently available on the web. It might take a bit of research, but several of Drake’s own members have pointed the way to at least one other haven for network marketers on the web.

Crying Baby Boomers

Social Security is BANKRUPT! The first segment of the Baby Boomers is about to help themselves to their share of Social Security. These are the people who were born in 1946 and are now 61 years of age. Shortly, an increasing number of these Baby Boomers will be taking early retirement. We are now seeing the front edge of a major Baby Boomer wave when those people who were born between 1946 and 1964, 80 million in all, will qualify for Social Security.

The Boomers tend to come from the age when you’re told to go to school, get good grades, go to college, get a good job, work until retirement, retire, and enjoy the good life… with either your employer or government “entitlements” like Social Security taking care of you. The vast majority of Baby Boomers have been forced to take the latter Social Security since very few employers offer fully funded “Defined Benefit” retirement programs any more.

But unbeknownst to most people is the fact that the Social Security (SS) trust fund has no… funds. The cupboards are bare. You see, as the Social Security tax rolls come into the government, they go into the general treasury. Current SS recipients are paid from these funds, but there is no surplus… in fact, there’s a deficit… more is paid out than comes in. So there really is no “trust” so to speak.

Brian Riedl of the conservative Heritage Foundation warns, “This is the single greatest economic challenge of our era.”

If you believe, as do I, that the U.S. government’s balance sheet is a tad bit tipped to the negative to the tune of almost $9 TRILLION, you’ve seen nothing yet. Over the next few decades the unfunded liabilities of Social Security and Medicare will rack up $50 trillion more in government obligations.

The US government has essentially two ways to address this situation. The first way will be to scale back on the benefits… there’s just no other choice. The second way that the US government will address the situation will be through monetary inflation, the most subtle form of currency devaluation.

The government will have to print the money to cover the coming tidal wave of unfunded liabilities. Say what? Print money? If you or I printed money, what would happen to us? We’d be thrown in jail. Not so for the U.S. government… or more accurately, the Federal Reserve, which is neither federal nor are there actually any reserves of value. The gold backing of our “fiat” Federal Reserve Notes, the dollar, was completely removed back in 1971 by then President Nixon. The Federal Reserve prints money, so to speak, by creating the dollars out of thin air and then using them to buy U.S. treasuries (bills, notes, and bonds) in the “open market”… thus the name “Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC)” that we hear so much about in the news.

This “printing” process will have a brutal impact on the dollar, a dollar that is already in decline and has broken major support at 80 on the dollar index. So what can you do to protect yourself from the further decline in the dollar? These and many more solutions you will find at our wealth-building web page.

The purchasing power of the dollar will continue to head down. Since 1913 when the Federal Reserve was created by an act of Congress, the dollar has lost 96 percent of its value. A dollar in 1913 is worth 4 cents today. We must wonder what the dollar will buy ten years from now — fifteen years, twenty years. It’s very sad, indeed.

This is the reason to own gold, silver, other precious metals, commodities, collectibles and just about anything that has inherent intrinsic value. The ultimate fate of the US dollar, and all fiat currencies for that matter, is for it to seek its ultimate intrinsic value… zero.

The third phase of the great commodities bull market lies ahead as the decline of the dollar and other fiat currencies is “discounted” in the market. Gold is destined to rise to “impossible” heights in terms of current US dollars. The reason the big move lies ahead is that the vast majority of investors remain clueless about what’s happening to the US dollar and correspondingly, gold. The US public owns no gold. But when they wake up… look out!

“In every dark cloud there is a silver lining.” Although there remains a preponderance of negative economic fundamentals in the United States, there is always a way to take advantage of such situations

Medical Insurance – What it is and Savings Tips

Medical insurance coverage pays for your medical expenses. It is, basically, a promise by an insurance company to provide or pay for medical expenses in exchange for payment of premiums. Your contract can be renewable annually or monthly. Broadly speaking, it includes insurance covering disability or long-term nursing or custodial care needs.

It can be obtained through government sponsored social insurance programs or from insurance companies. It can provide coverage to a group of persons or to an individual consumer. The covered group or individual can avail protection from medical insurance by paying the premium. The insured is free to choose the health care provider. The health care provider can seek reimbursement from the insurer.

Coverage is usually obtained through an employer if a person is employed on a full time basis. Others, including self-employed persons, have to arrange for health insurance on their own. They can buy a policy from insurance companies.

The type and amount of medical costs that will be covered are specified in advance. You can exclude expenditures on health insurance from taxable income if you have obtained it from your employer as a benefit of employment.

There are local, federal and state medical insurance plans funded by the United States Government. States also sponsor certain plans. They are offered by each state’s office to its constituents and may be called by different names across different states.

The cost depends on the type of plan, the state of residence, the age and health status of the insured and the benefits. Here are quick ways to attract cheaper rates…

1. There are established name brands in the pharmaceutical industry. If you buy such drugs, your rates will go up.
